Welcome to the Em Adventure standard itinerary for the fast-track summit climb. This intensive 2-day, 1-night package is tailored for fit, experienced hikers who are short on time but want the ultimate reward: watching the sunrise from the 3,726-meter peak of Mount Rinjani.
Trek Profile & Quick Facts
This route skips the crater lake and hot springs to focus entirely on the summit push, returning down the same path it goes up.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 0: Arrival and Trek Preparation
The day before your trek is dedicated to logistics, resting, and ensuring your high-performance gear is dialed in for the climb.
-
Pickup & Transfer: The Em Adventure team will pick you up from any major arrival point in Lombok (Lombok International Airport, Bangsal Harbor, Senggigi, or Kuta) in a private air-conditioned vehicle.
-
Journey to the Mountain: You will be transferred to your included pre-trek accommodation in Sembalun village (situated at the foothills of Rinjani).
-
Check-in & Briefing: After checking into your room, you will meet your lead guide. This is a critical time for a gear check. Because you are doing a fast-track 2-day ascent, the guide will verify your trail running shoes, check your ultra-light daypack, and ensure your headlamp and carbon trekking poles are ready.
-
Rest: Enjoy dinner at the hotel or a local warung, and get to sleep early. You will need to be well-rested for the 7:00 AM start the next morning.
Day 1: The Savannah and the Steep Ascent
Sembalun (1,150m) ➔ Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639m)
-
Trekking Time: 7–9 hours
-
Elevation Gain: +1,489m
The day begins with an early pickup from your hotel and a transfer to the Rinjani National Park Office in Sembalun for registration.
-
08:00 AM: Begin trekking through the rolling, open grasslands of the Sembalun Savannah. The first few hours are relatively flat and exposed to the sun.
-
POS 1 (Pemantauan – 1,300m): Reached after about 2 hours of walking.
-
POS 2 (Tengengean – 1,500m): Another 1 hour of walking. Take a short break for biscuits and tea.
-
POS 3 (Pada Balong – 1,800m): After 1 more hour, arrive here for a 1–2 hour break while your porters prepare a fresh, hot lunch.
-
The Final Climb (2,639m): The terrain shifts dramatically after POS 3. Prepare for a steep, 3.5-hour climb through pine-like Casuarina forests up to the Sembalun Crater Rim.
-
17:00 PM: Arrive at the Plawangan Sembalun campsite. Your tents will be set up by the porter team, ready for you to enjoy an extraordinary sunset over the crater, Segara Anak Lake, and the active Mount Barujari volcano. Have dinner and get to sleep early.
Day 2: The Summit Push and Descent
Crater Rim (2,639m) ➔ Summit (3,726m) ➔ Sembalun (1,150m)
-
Trekking Time: 10–13 hours total (Very Long Day)
-
Elevation Gain/Loss: +1,087m up, -2,576m down
This is the hardest and most rewarding day of the trek. You will be walking in the dark with headlamps and dealing with freezing temperatures and thin air.
-
01:30 – 02:00 AM: Wake up for a light pre-trek breakfast (hot tea, coffee, toast).
-
02:00 AM: Begin the steep summit push. The first section is demanding, but the final hour is notoriously tough: climbing on steep, loose volcanic scree where it often feels like taking “two steps forward, one step back”.
-
05:30 – 06:00 AM (Summit – 3,726m): Arrive at the peak just as the sun rises. Celebrate, take photos, and enjoy panoramic views stretching across the Wallace Line to Mount Agung in Bali and Mount Tambora in Sumbawa.
-
06:30 AM: Begin the 1.5 to 2-hour descent back to the crater rim campsite.
-
08:30 AM: Arrive back at camp for a well-deserved, heavy breakfast and a brief rest.
-
09:30 AM: Pack up and begin the long descent back to Sembalun village, retracing your steps past POS 3, 2, and 1. Lunch is served en route by the porter team.
-
14:00 – 16:00 PM: Arrive at the Rinjani Information Center in Sembalun. The Em Adventure team will be waiting to transfer you to your next destination in Lombok (Senggigi, Bangsal Harbor, Mataram, etc.).

Items to Pack:
Trekking Mount Rinjani is an incredible adventure, but the terrain is rugged, and the temperature fluctuates wildly from hot and humid at the bottom to below freezing at the summit. Here is a short, essential packing list to keep you comfortable and safe:
-
Headlamp
-
Toiletries and personal medications
-
Sunblock or lotion, hat or cap, and sunglasses
